Dr. Gurdeep Parhar

Dr. Gurdeep ParharDr. Parhar is Medical Director of CORE Occupational Health Centre providing Independent Medical Examinations (IME) in the field of Disability Medicine, Functional Capacity Evaluations (FCE) and Cost of Future Care (CFC) assessments. He provides consultation services to assist in the rehabilitation of injured or ill workers. In this capacity, he serves as the Medical Director of numerous corporations in British Columbia.

Biography

Dr. Parhar was a Medical Advisor to WorkSafeBC for 5 years, and he was the first Medical Coordinator for the BC Workers Compensation Appeal Tribunal (WCAT) for 9 years – retiring from this position in February 2014.

Dr. Parhar teaches extensively in the areas of impairment, disability, occupational medicine and the management of motor vehicle collision injuries at the Faculty of Medicine at UBC. He also created and teaches a course on Physical Aspects of Medical Disability at Simon Fraser University in a diploma program for case managers and disability managers. At the University of British Columbia, he created and taught a course entitled “Medical Aspects of Disability”, a mandatory course in the Masters of Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling Program.

He was the Occupational Physician for the City of Vancouver where he was responsible for reviewing the health of injured and ill workers in the various departments of the City of Vancouver including the City of Vancouver Fire Department, Parks and Recreation, and Engineering Department.

Dr. Parhar has served as the Occupational Physician for the Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) Program at the University of British Columbia.

Dr. Parhar had previously been the Chairperson of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) Medical Review Board.

He is a Marine Medical Examiner certified by Transport Canada and determined fitness to work for all seafarers who work in the marine industry.

Dr. Parhar is the Executive Associate Dean, Clinical Partnerships and Professionalism for UBC’s Faculty of Medicine. This role combines two portfolios in the Faculty of Medicine for which he had previously been responsible: Executive Associate Dean –Clinical Affairs and Associate Dean –Equity and Professionalism.

From January 2013 until March 2015, Dr. Parhar was appointed as the Acting Associate Vice President –Equity and Inclusion for the University of British Columbia.

Previously, Dr. Parhar served as Co-Acting Head and Associate Head of the UBC Department of Family Practice.

With all of his commitments, he co-hosts a weekly television program entitled “Pearls for Success”, targeting the well-being of new Canadians.

In 2010, Dr. Parhar was awarded the Trial Lawyers Association of British Columbia (TLABC) President’s Award and the BC College of Family Physicians’ Teacher of the Year Award. In 2011, Dr. Parhar was awarded a UBC Killam Teaching Prize and the University of Calgary’s, Faculty of Medicine Alumnus of Distinction Award. In 2012, Dr. Parhar made the key note address to the Medical University of Vienna entitled “Diversity – Recruiting, Supporting and Promoting Excellence”. In July 2013, Dr. Parhar was invited as a visiting professor to teach Professionalism in Saigon Medical School Vietnam.

Fairleth is a Nurse Practitioner with eight years of medical/surgical nursing experience, ten years of family NP practice and 28 years of teaching experience. She received her Post-Master Certificate (Family Nurse Practitioner) from Gonzaga University, Spokane, Washington.

Fairleth is assisting with occupational health assessments including Driver’s Medical Examinations.

Sunny primarily works with doctor’s billings, payroll, managing supplies and payments. She graduated in Accounting and Payroll Managerment, she has been working at CORE Medical Centre since 2008.
